Favourite Books of 2019

I always love doing this post every year because I love reflecting on all my favourite books I’ve read in the year. The books on this list are books that I read this year not only books that were published this year. It’s sometimes hard to narrow down favourites but here are my top ten books that I read in 2019.  This is also the topic of this week’s Top Ten Tuesday (which is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl).

Song of Sorrow (Sorrow book 2) by Melinda Salisbury – I reread the first book to this duology before reading Song of Sorrow and I enjoyed that too. This is a YA fantasy duology with a gripping plot and interesting characters, I loved this duology.

Under A Dancing Star by Laura Wood – I can’t wait for this author to write more books because this is the second book I’ve loved by her. This is such a beautiful story about finding your place in a world that doesn’t want you to choose your own path.

Godsgrave (The Nevernight Chronicle book 2) by Jay Kristoff – I read Nevernight in 2019 too and enjoyed it as well but I did like the second book just slightly more, I felt more connected to the characters and I liked reading about Mia’s journey.

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid – Taylor Jenkins Reid is now one of my auto-buy authors. I loved The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo last year so I was highly anticipating this one and I’m glad that I ended up loving it too.

The Air You Breathe by Frances de Pontes Peebles – I’ve loved all the books on this list but if someone asked me what my most favourite would be, it would be The Air You Breathe. The writing and story in this book are so emotional, it is such a beautiful book.

In An Absent Dream (Wayward Children book 4) by Seanan McGuire – In An Absent Dream is my favourite book in the Wayward Children series. This story felt so captivating with such beautiful writing that makes you feel so many different emotions.

War of Mist (The Oremere Chronicles book 3) by Helen Scheuerer – This is the last book in an amazing YA fantasy trilogy that is very underrated. This trilogy has everything a great fantasy needs, such as characters with well written character arcs, an interesting world with magic in it and an exciting and intriguing plot. Everything in this series is so well thought out and I love the character interactions in them. I loved this conclusion to the trilogy.

The Kingdom by Jess Rothenberg – This was a surprising book because although it sounded interesting and I expected to like it, I wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I did. They way this is described by a lot of people is Disneyworld meets Westworld and that description is perfect for it. That’s exactly what you get and I loved the moral questioning of whether or not the robots in the book are like humans or not. It’s such a gripping story that keeps you interested until the end.

Ghosts of the Shadow Market by Cassandra Clare – I don’t know why but I love the Shadowhunter world so much and the characters in these series’ always feel so real and that makes me feel so attached to them.

This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone – This was another book that I was surprised that I loved so much. It’s so hard to describe what the books about but I loved it and thought the story was very unique and I loved how the characters interacted.
