Book: Blood Heir
Series: Aurelia Ryder #1
Author: Ilona Andrews
Genre: Adult Urban Fantasy
Atlanta was always a dangerous city. Now, as waves of magic and technology compete for supremacy, it’s a place caught in a slow apocalypse, where monsters spawn among the crumbling skyscrapers and supernatural factions struggle for power and survival.
Eight years ago, Julie Lennart left Atlanta to find out who she was. Now she’s back with a new face, a new magic, and a new name—Aurelia Ryder—drawn by the urgent need to protect the family she left behind. An ancient power is stalking her adopted mother, Kate Daniels, an enemy unlike any other, and a string of horrifying murders is its opening gambit.
If Aurelia’s true identity is discovered, those closest to her will die. So her plan is simple: get in, solve the murders, prevent the prophecy from being fulfilled, and get out without being recognized. She expected danger, but she never anticipated that the only man she’d ever loved could threaten everything.
One small misstep could lead to disaster. But for Aurelia, facing disaster is easy; it’s relationships that are hard.
My Rating: 4 STARS
Blood Heir is set in the Kate Daniels world and follows Julie, who was Kate’s ward/adopted daughter. Eight years have passed since the ending of the Kate Daniels series and Julie is now in her mid twenties and also has a new face, body and name.
I loved the Kate Daniels series and was surprised to find out at the beginning of Blood Heir that Julie had left Kate and Curran and hadn’t been back home in years. I was also very intrigued by her new looks and how and why they came to be.
I loved reading from Julie’s pov in this book and I liked finding out little bits and pieces of what her life was like after she left Atlanta. The plot was very intriguing and there were many surprises throughout the book. Since it’s Julie’s story with her being back in Atlanta I was expecting to see her old friends again like Derek and Ascanio but I was surprised at how much things had changed between them all and how different their lives are now.
The writing was great like always and I love how Ilona Andrews writes their books with a great balance of intrigue, action and emotion between the characters.
Overall I loved Blood Heir and seeing Julie all grown up with her own confidence and powers. I was very intrigued by a lot of things that happened in this book and loved seeing old characters again like Derek and Ascanio. I really want to know what is going on with the characters in this book and can’t wait to read more about them.
