August Wrap Up 2021

What I Read In August:

a dowry of blood calibans war a lair of bones
A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson – ADULT PARANORMAL, HISTORICAL, HORROR – 5 STARS

I loved A Dowry of Blood, I loved the writing and the gothic setting of it. The writing and story were so captivating to read and I loved how this book is told in letter form from Constanta to her vampire creator. This book is filled with some beautifully poignant quotes.

Caliban’s War (The Expanse #2) by James S.A. Corey – ADULT SCI-FI – 5 STARS

I loved Caliban’s War but I knew I would since it follows very close to the tv series of it and I loved that also. I loved reading from more povs in this book and I just really enjoy reading this series especially after watching the show because I can picture everything clearly in my head.

A Lair of Bones (Curse of the Cyren Queen #1) by Helen Scheuerer – YA FANTASY – 4 STARS

I really liked this book and loved how it’s about Cyrens (Sirens). The history of the Cyrens in this book was very interesting and I liked the descriptions of the setting. I also thought the trials were very exciting to read about.

trail of lightning storm of locusts
Trail of Lightning (The Sixth World #1) by Rebecca Roanhorse – ADULT URBAN FANTASY – 4 STARS
Storm of Locusts (The Sixth World #2) by Rebecca Roanhorse – ADULT URBAN FANTASY – 4 STARS

I’ve been meaning to start this series since it came out years ago and I finally did in August, I don’t know why it took me so long since I ended up loving them. This series has all the markers of a great urban fantasy series, it has a badass heroine who helps people and along the way there is a slow burn romance. The world building is also fantastic and I loved the writing of it too. I really can’t wait to read more books in this series.

hellbound guilds rogue ghosts
Hellbound Guilds & Other Misdirections (The Guild Codex: Warped #2) by Annette Marie and Rob Jacobsen – ADULT URBAN FANTASY – 3 STARS
Rogue Ghosts & Other Miscreants (The Guild Codex: Warped #3) by Annette Marie and Rob Jacobsen – ADULT URBAN FANTASY – 3 STARS

I thought these two books were okay reads but I don’t seem to be clicking with the characters as much as the characters from the other Guild Codex series’. I like Kit’s laid back style but sometimes I find him a bit annoying and I don’t think Lienna is an interesting character at all. The storyline is entertaining and I do love the Guild Codex world and the glimpses of other characters within this series.
