I’m back again with one of my favourite book tags, The Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag 2022. I do this tag every year and love reflecting on my reading from the first half of the year so far.
1) Best book you’ve read so far in 2022
A Shadow in the Ember (Flesh and Fire #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout and Glorious Poison (Battalion of the Dead #3) by Kat Dunn – I loved both these books so much.
2) Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2022
House of Sky and Breath (Crescent City #2) by Sarah J. Maas and Crush (Crave #2) by Tracy Wolff – I loved both these books too and can’t wait to read more in the series’.
3) New release you haven’t read yet, but want to
Bad Things Happen Here by Rebecca Barrow and If You Still Recognise Me by Cynthia So – I’ve been hearing so much good things about these two books recently so I really need to pick them up soon.
4) Most anticipated release for the second half of the year
Ruby Fever (Hidden Legacy #6) by Ilona Andrews – I love this series and I’ve been looking forward to reading this book for a while.
5) Biggest disappointment
Skyhunter by Marie Lu – I’m really sad I didn’t love this book as much as I’d hoped I would. It was an okay read but usually Marie Lu’s books are some of my favourites and this wasn’t.
6) Biggest surprise
The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green – I don’t usually read non-fiction so I was very surprised at how much I loved this book.
7) Favourite new author (Debut or new to you)
Sophie Gonzales (Perfect on Paper) and Leah Johnson (You Should See Me in a Crown) – These two authors are new to me authors that I began reading this year and I enjoyed the books I read by them and I’m looking forward to reading more books by them in the future.
8) Newest fictional crush
I don’t have any new fictional crushes this year.
9) Newest favourite character
Probably both Seraphena and Nyktos from A Shadow in the Ember because I really enjoyed reading about them.
10) Book that made you cry
Message Not Found by Dante Medema (I was sent an arc of this book by the publisher) – I didn’t cry while reading this book but it does focus on grief so it has a very sad feeling to it.
11) Book that made you happy
Heartstopper by Alice Oseman – This book feels so cheerful so read and I really liked the artwork of it.
12) Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)
Fangs by Sarah Anderson – This is a short graphic novel and this edition I have has a nice cloth feel to it with black sprayed edges which makes it look so pretty.
13) What books do you need to read by the end of the year?
All Our Hidden Gifts by Caroline O’Donoghue, Malice by Heather Walter and Wolfsong by T.J. Klune – These book have been on my tbr a while so I really need to get to them before the year is over.
Have you read any of these books?
