Julie and the Phantoms Bookish Tag

WAKE UP

THE BAND IS BACK
a sequel that you waited a long time for

House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City #1) by Sarah J Maas – I read a lot of books with incredible friendships but this book immediately came to mind, I loved Bryce and Danika’s friendship.

I GOT THE MUSIC
a book that got you out of a slump

ehad.jpg

Every Heart a Doorway (Wayward Children #1) by Seanan McGuire – This book didn’t get me out of a reading slump but I think it would be a great book to get you out of one since it’s short and less daunting but also has a really intriguing premise and storyline.

THE OTHER SIDE OF HOLLYWOOD
a book with a great ensemble of characters

td.jpg

The Diviners by Libba Bray – There was a lot of main characters in this series and I loved them all. They all felt individual and had their own storylines that tied up with the other characters in the books. Their personalities were all fully fleshed out and they felt like real people.

A Snowfall of Silver by Laura Wood – This has such a pretty cover and I love the silver foiling on it.

a book that is (almost) perfect

toll

The Toll (Arc of a Scythe #3 by Neal Shusterman – I loved The Toll and thought this book was the perfect ending to the trilogy. UNSAID EMILY
a book that makes you cry

tayb.jpg

The Air You Breathe by Frances De Pontes Peebles – This is such an emotional poignant story and two young girls in Brazil in the 1930s from completely different backgrounds growing up together and wanting to become musicians together, it’s such a beautifully written story.

YOU GOT NOTHING TO LOSE

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid – I feel like I don’t even have to explain why this book gave me all the feelings since everyone knows of this book and has probably read and experienced all those feelings themselves.

book tag

The Anti-TBR Tag

This tag has been going around the last few months and I’ve wanted to do it for a while now. The original creator of this tag is Nicole & Her Books. This tag is quite a controversial one since it’s talking about all the books you don’t plan of reading for various reasons so it doesn’t really need to be said but I’ll say it anyway, these are my own opinions and it’s okay if our opinions differ.

QUESTIONS

1. A popular book EVERYONE loves that you have no interest in reading? – I feel like I’ve been hearing so many people talk about and love The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson but it doesn’t really interest me. Also Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo was getting a lot of hype when it was released and I wasn’t all that interested in that book either.

2. A classic book (or author) you don’t have an interest in reading? – I tried two books by Jane Austen and I’ve really disliked both. I DNFed Pride and Prejudice and finished but disliked Northanger Abbey so I don’t think her books are for me.

3. An author whose books you have no interest in reading? ( Or 3.2 A problematic author whose books you have no interest in reading?)Stephen King – I don’t really have a reason for not reading a Stephen King book other than I don’t want to which is reason enough.

4. An author you have read a couple of books from & have decided their books are not for you? – Every book released by Silvia Moreno-Garcia always sounds so interesting to me. The blurbs for Signal to Noise and Gods of Jade and Shadow both sounded so good and like something I’d love but I read Signal to Noise and was disappointed by it then I tried Gods of Jade and Shadow and felt the same way and ended up DNFing it.

5. A genre you have no interest in OR a genre you tried to get into & couldn’t? – I’ve tried a good amount of thrillers and I don’t know why but I always dislike them, I just don’t click with the genre.

6. A book you have bought but will never read? (this can be a book you have unhauled/returned to the library unread) – I don’t think I’ve ever bought a book that I didn’t at least try so for this I chose a book I bought and ended up DNFing which is A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L’Engle.

7. A series you have no interest in reading OR a series you started & have dnf’d? – I already have a few posts talking about some series I’ve DNFed which you can find here and here, some of the series on those lists are The Folk of the Air series and Serpent & Dove series.

8. A new release you have no interest in reading? – I feel like I’ve been seeing Lore by Alexandra Bracken everywhere recently but it’s not a book I’m interested in and I don’t really plan on picking it up.

Have you read any of these books? And do you feel the same?

Cosy Christmas Book Tag

I thought I’d do another Christmas tag here on my blog and I saw this one and it looked like fun. This is the cosy christmas book tag and you can find a link to the original video of it here.

QUESTIONS:

1. Twinkling lights – What is the most beautiful book you own?

tlbw pic

The Light Between Worlds by Laura Weymouth – I don’t know if I would say this is the MOST beautiful book I own but it’s definitely one of them, I really like the cover and the end pages.

2. The perfect tree – Will you pay more to get the prettiest edition of a book?

No, unless there is only a very small price difference between an average edition of a book and a really pretty/special edition of a book.

3. Build a snowman – Make a Christmas book stack (colour or theme).

snowman book pic

I posted this picture either last year or the year before on my instagram (kylaslibrary) of a book snowman.

4. Crackling fire – What book makes you feel warm and cosy?

tgc1

Three Mages and a Margarita by Annette Marie.

5. Knee high socks – What is the longest book you’ve read?

doa

I think the longest book I’ve read is Drums of Autumn (Outlander #4) by Diana Gabaldon, which is nearly 1200 pages long.

6. Ugly sweaters – What’s the ugliest book you own?

stn

I didn’t really know what book to choose for this question so I decided to just choose a book that I read this year that I didn’t like and it also has a cover I dislike too, which is Signal to Noise by Silvia Moreno Garcia.  I wouldn’t say this was the ugliest book I own because I do like the colours on the cover but I’m choosing it because its one of my most recent disliked covers.

7. Blizzards – A book set in winter, or a book that gives you the chills/has dark themes.

asos

A Snowfall of Silver by Laura Wood. This book doesn’t give me chills and it doesn’t have dark themes but it is set during the winter months and the characters even get snowed in.

8. Home for the holidays – For the rereaders out there, are there any books that feel like “going home”?

cob

The Shadowhunter series by Cassandra Clare – I feel very attached to the Shadowhunter world and I always love delving back into this world.

Have you read any of these books?

Tis The Season Book Tag

I love doing book tags and I’ve been seeing this one about and I thought I’d do it. Here is a link to the original video of ‘Tis the Season Book Tag’. I didn’t realise until I was almost done picking my answers for this tag that the books I picked for my answers all have blue on the cover so now I have a blue themed Tis The Season book tag.

QUESTIONS:

1. Do you have a favourite Winter read?

asos

I didn’t really have a specific book in mind for this question but I just finished reading A Snowfall of Silver by Laura Wood and loved it and I think this is such a perfect book for winter.

2. Find a book with blue on the cover!

cid

A Snowfall of Silver probably suits this question too but I decided to choose Cinderella Is Dead by Kalynn Bayron instead.

3. Find a book you’d use as the star on a Christmas tree?

twos

The Weight of the Stars by K. Ancrum. This is one of my favourite books of this year and I chose it because it has the word star in the title.

4. Pick one fictional place that would be perfect for a Winter vacation!

hom.jpg

There is a fictional land in The Oremere Chronicles by Helen Scheuerer called Havennesse that was described as being a very snowy and wintry. I think the characters went there in the second book, Reign of Mist.

5. Pick one fictional character you’d take with you on your Winter vacation!

tgc1

Tori from The Guild Codex: Spellbound series. I love Tori’s personality so I think she’d be a lot of fun to go on winter vacation with.

6. Name one book on your Wishlist this year!

sd

Seven Devils by Laura Lam and Elizabeth May.

7. Favourite Holiday drink, treat, & movie?

I don’t think I have a specific drink and treat in mind for this question but my favourite Christmas movie is definitely The Muppets Christmas Carol.

Have you read any of these books? What would be some of your answers to these questions?
