Book Covers That Have A Spooky Aesthetic

There are a lot of spooky looking book covers out there and since Halloween is nearly upon us I thought I’d do a post showing some book covers that I think have a spooky aesthetic to them. There are quite a few spooky book covers but I narrowed it down to six and these are books I’ve already read.

Before the Devil Breaks You (The Diviners #3) by Libba Bray
The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury
Perfectly Preventable Deaths by Deirdre Sullivan

One Grave at a Time (Night Huntress #6) by Jeaniene Frost
Through the Woods by Emily Carroll
A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson

What book covers do you think suit the spooky season?

Books I Want To Reread In 2021

There are a few books I want to reread this year for various reasons so I thought I’d do a post to tell you some of the books I’m planning on rereading this year.

Shades of Treason and Shades of Honor (Anomaly #1 & #2) by Sandy Williams

sot.jpg

It’s been a long time since I read these first two books in this series but I really loved them when I read them. This series is an interesting sci-fi space opera with a great romance and I’ve been excited for the third and final (I think?) book for so long, I can’t wait to reread these and get to the new one.

Enchantée/All That Glitters by Gita Trelease

enchantee.jpg

I was sent a review copy by the publisher of this years ago and I really liked it but it’s been a while since I read it so I want to reread it before I read the sequel that releases next month.

Spellbook of the Lost and Found by Moïra Fowley-Doyle

solaf.jpg

I remember loving this book years ago when I read it, I loved the writing and story but I can’t remember much of the details so recently I’ve been wanting to pick it up again and reread it.

Mirage (Mirage #1) by Somaiya Daud

mirage.jpg

The sequel to this book was published last year and I’ve really been wanting to read it but I’ve held off because I wanted to reread the first book before reading the second because I enjoyed the first one so much that I would love to reread it again.

A Sky Painted Gold by Laura Wood

I read this a few years ago and loved it. I loved the overall story, the writing and the characters and I really want to reread it again.

Do you reread books? Is there any you want to reread this year?

Winter 2020 Book Releases I’m Most Excited About

There are so many new releases for the winter months so I decided to narrow down my list to just seven of my MOST anticipated releases of winter 2020.

winter 2020 releases im most excited about pic1
Shades of Allegiance (Anomaly #3) by Sandy Williams
I love this series and I can’t believe the last book (I think it’s the last book anyway) is finally getting released. The second book was released in 2016 and I read it as soon as it came out so it’s been a long time since I’ve read these books but I’m still so excited for it. I’ll probably need to reread the first two books in the series to refresh my mind on it. I love Sandy Williams’ writing and can’t wait to dive right into this world again.

Blood Heir (Aurelia Ryder #1) by Ilona Andrews
I didn’t even know this book was a thing until recently which makes me feel like a bad fan of the Kate Daniels books. This isn’t about Kate, it’s about Julie and I’m very excited to read it. I think it was released on the author’s blog first but I haven’t read it yet and I’m glad it’s being bound up into a book.

A Court of Silver Flames (ACOTAR #4) by Sarah J Maas
I think this book will be on a lot of people’s most anticipated lists because it’s such a popular series. I love Sarah J Maas’ writing and every one of her books is an auto buy one for me.

Liberté (Enchantée #2) by Gita Trelease
I really enjoyed the first book in this series when I read it last year so I very excited for the sequel. I think I might have to reread the first book before reading this one to remind myself of the details since it’s been a while.

A Dark and Hollow Star by Ashley Shuttleworth
I hope this one is as good as the blurb sounds because ever since I read the blurb I’ve been very excited about it. It’s been compared to City of Bones (which I love) and is an urban fantasy (which is one of my favourite genres). This book sounds so good and I can’t wait to read it.

The Iron Raven by Julie Kagawa
I loved The Iron Fey series and the spin off series featuring Ethan and now The Iron Raven is being released. This book is about Puck and I hope it’s as good as the original series. I don’t know if I should reread the original series or not but either way I’m very excited about this book too.

Unchosen by Katharyn Blair
This is a book I only recently heard about but it sounds so good that I’m now very excited about it.

What winter releases are you most excited about?

Book Series I Won’t Be Continuing #2

book series i won't be continuing 2

I did a post a few months back talking about some book series I decided not to continue with (which you can find here) and today I’m back with some more. Just like in my first post I’ll start off by saying that these are my own opinions and its okay if our opinions differ on these books.

book series i won't be continuing 2 pic 1
Seafire by Natalie C Parker

I read Seafire and thought it was okay, I liked how it was about an all female pirate crew but it didn’t make a lasting impression on me and I don’t feel an urge to continue with the series.

Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin

I know a lot of people love this book and I did like the beginning of it but I started to really dislike the characters as the book went on and overall I was very disappointed in it so I don’t want to pick up the sequel.

The Aurora Cycle by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

I read Aurora Rising and was disappointed in it, I really thought I’d love it more than I did but I didn’t like the characters and I don’t want to read the next one.

Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa

I’ve loved the Blood of Eden and the Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa but I didn’t like Shadow of the Fox. I thought it was very predictable and I felt like the story and characters were very generic.

The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken

This is an older book series and I read the first book years ago and enjoyed it but it took me years to read the second one and when I did I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first.

The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater

I liked the atmosphere of the first book in this series and I did read the second and the third book but I enjoyed them less and less as the series went on until I decided to just stop reading them.

Book Series I Won’t Be Continuing #1

This blog post will probably be quite a controversial one since I’m going to be talking about the book series’ that I’ve gave up on and won’t be continuing and there are a lot of popular books on this list so I just wanted to remind everyone that these are my own opinions and it’s okay if our opinions differ as long as we are nice about it in the comments.

The Folk of the Air by Holly Black

tcp.jpg

I’ve read the first two books in this series, I rated the first four stars but the more I think about it the more I want to change my rating to a three. Maybe it’s the hype surrounding this series but I don’t find it as interesting as a lot of other people do so I don’t want to read the third one.

Kingmaker Chronicles by Amanda Bouchet

apof.jpg

I liked the first book but I really disliked the second because I felt like the characters changed and didn’t feel like the same ones I read about in the first book.

Simon Snow by Rainbow Rowell

co

I read and enjoyed Carry On when it first came out but I haven’t read Wayward Son, I thought Carry On was a standalone and I felt like it didn’t need a sequel.

Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

cra

I know this book is meant to discuss shallow people but I disliked how 2D every character felt in it so I won’t be continuing with the rest of the books.

Caraval by Stephanie Garber

caraval.jpg

I’ve read the first book in this series but haven’t read the second. I did really enjoy Caraval but this is more of a case of just losing interest in the books rather than me disliking them.

Shatter me by Tahereh Mafi

sm.jpg

I loved the first trilogy in this series and was so excited when it was announced it was being continued because I really thought the ending of Ignite Me needed more to the story but I ended up being disappointed in Restore Me (Book 4). I didn’t like Juliette and thought there was some unnecessary drama with her and Warner’s relationship.

Shades of Magic by V.E. Schwab

adsom.jpg

I liked the first one in this series and I thought it had an interesting concept but I feel like I’ve forgotten about what happened and I tried to pick up the sequel but I just couldn’t get into it so I’ve decided to give up on the series.

The Others by Anne Bishop

wir.jpg

I’ve read the first three books in this series and I enjoyed them but I just kind of lost interest in the series and I’m not that excited about continuing with the series as I once was so I decided not to.

What series have you gave up on and decided not to continue? Have you read any of the books I’ve mentioned above?

Backlist Books I Want To Read In 2020

backlist books i want to read in 2020 pic
There is so many new releases that I’m so excited about that sometimes I forget about some of the books that have already been out for years that sound equally as exciting. Here is a short list of some of the backlist books I want to read in 2020.

backlist books i want to read in 2020-1

Signal to Noise by Silvia Moreno-Garcia – I’m interested in all of Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s books because they all sound amazing and from vastly different genres. Signal to Noise would be my first book by her and I hope I love it so I can read her other books and love them too.

Renegades by Marissa Meyer – This book has been on so many of my seasonal tbr lists but I still haven’t read it yet, I’m definitely going to read it this year.

Leviathan Wakes (The Expanse book 1) by James S.A Corey – I’ve recently been wanting to watch The Expanse tv series but I didn’t even realise it was based on a book until recently (I have heard of the book before but I just didn’t realise it was the book the show was based on) so now I really want to read the series before starting the show.

backlist books i want to read in 2020-2
The Sin Eater’s Daughter by Melinda Salisbury – I loved the Sorrow duology by Melinda Salisbury so I really want to read more by this author.

Skinwalker by Faith Hunter – I love reading adult urban fantasy series, I’ve read the Kate Daniels, Mercy Thompson and Night Huntress series and I’ve always seen this series on similar lists as those books.

Three Parts Dead by Max Gladstone – I loved This Is How You Lose the Time War and I’d really like to try some of the authors other works.

What backlist books do you plan on reading in 2020?
