For Malik, the Solstasia festival is a chance to escape his war-stricken home and start a new life with his sisters in the prosperous desert city of Ziran. But when a vengeful spirit abducts his younger sister, Nadia, as payment to enter the city, Malik strikes a fatal deal—kill Karina, Crown Princess of Ziran, for Nadia’s freedom.

But Karina has deadly aspirations of her own. Her mother, the Sultana, has been assassinated; her court threatens mutiny; and Solstasia looms like a knife over her neck. Grief-stricken, Karina decides to resurrect her mother through ancient magic . . . requiring the beating heart of a king. And she knows just how to obtain one: by offering her hand in marriage to the victor of the Solstasia competition.

When Malik rigs his way into the contest, they are set on a heart-pounding course to destroy each other. But as attraction flares between them and ancient evils stir, will they be able to see their tasks to the death?

My Review:

I loved this book, it immediately sucked me in and I read it so quickly. I read this in almost one sitting, the plot was so intriguing and so many things were happening that I just couldn’t stop reading.

It’s told from dual pov and I loved reading about Malik. The story opens up with him and I really liked reading about him and his sisters trying to take care of each other. Malik has panic attacks and is very anxious all the time and I really liked how that was included in this book and how is was described throughout the story, especially in a fantasy setting.

Karina is a hard character to like, from the beginning she dismisses her friends/advisors and lashed out a few times at them but I still thought her storyline was interesting and I was very intrigued by what her choices would be.

The story was really captivating, I loved how the magic was described in both the past and the present. The magical elements were very interesting and I loved how the ending came about.

Overall I loved A Song of Wraiths and Ruin, I was thoroughly captivated by the story and loved reading about the magic and the characters and their choices. I can’t wait to see where the story goes next.
