Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag 2021

I say this every year but it’s still true, this is one of my most favourite book tags to do and I look forward to doing it every year. I love how there are so many different prompts that really make you reflect on your reading at the halfway point through the year. A lot of the books I picked could’ve fit multiple answers but I decided to not choose the same book twice.

QUESTIONS:

1) Best book you’ve read so far in 2021

raybeaer

Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko – Raybearer is such a fantastic book, I loved the writing and I think the author is a great storyteller. I loved everything about this book from the characters and the plot to the amazing writing and themes of the story and can’t wait to read the next one.

2) Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2021

akofaf

A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire (Blood and Ash #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout – I loved this book more than the first and think it’s a great sequel. I loved the development of the romance and loved the different character dynamics between some of the characters in this book.

Monstrous Design (Battalion of the Dead #2) by Kat Dunn – I loved the first book of this series and can’t wait to dive right into this book and see what these characters get up to next.

4) Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

Redemptor (Raybearer #2) by Jordan Ifueko – I’ve already talked about my love for Raybearer so of course Redemptor is my most anticipated releases of the second half of the year.

Rejected (Shadow Beast Shifters #1) by Jaymin Eve – I was really surprised about how much I enjoyed this book and this series. 9) Newest favourite character

a song of wraiths and ruin

Malik from A Song of Wraiths and Ruin by Roseanne A. Brown. I loved how close of a bond Malik has with his sisters and his struggles with anxiety really make him such a relatable character. I loved how his character developed over the course of the book.

10) Book that made you cry

acosf

A Court of Silver Flames (ACOTAR #4) by Sarah J Maas – ACOSF is a very emotional book as Nesta goes on a self reflective journey and tries to overcome her past trauma. I loved this book and as always SJMs writing is always heart wrenching.

Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag 2020

mid year book freak out 2020-1

The Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag is always one of my favourite posts to do, I love reflecting on how my reading is going so far within the year. I chose multiple answers for some questions because I just couldn’t narrow it down.

QUESTIONS:

1) Best book you’ve read so far in 2020

mid year pic 3

House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas and The Kingdom of Back by Marie Lu
I couldn’t just pick one for this question because I loved them both.

2) Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2020

toll

The Toll (Arc of a Scythe #3) by Neal Schusterman
The Toll is the last book in this trilogy and I loved how this ended. The whole book felt so epic and I loved seeing all the threads in this trilogy come together in The Toll.

3) New release you haven’t read yet, but want to

asbw

A Song Below Water by Bethany C Morrow

4) Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

asos

A Snowfall of Silver by Laura Wood
I recently made a post about my most anticipated releases of the second half of the year that you can find here but I decided to pick just one from that list for this question. I’ve loved both A Sky Painted Gold and Under A Dancing Star by Laura Wood and I know I’ll love this book.

5) Biggest disappointment

cd

Courting Darkness by Robin LaFevers
I loved the His Fair Assassin trilogy and Courting Darkness is a spin off series from that trilogy so I expected to love it just as much but I was disappointed in the characters and I thought the overall story didn’t flow as well as the His Fair Assassin trilogy.

6) Biggest surprise

bq

Beauty Queens by Libba Bray
I was very surprised at how much I liked this book.

7) Favourite new author (Debut or new to you)

mid year pic 2

Laura Weymouth
I’ve read both The Light Between Worlds and A Treason of Thorns this year and I really liked them both especially the writing of them so I can’t wait to read what the author writes next.

8) Newest fictional crush

I rarely have crushes on characters and this year I haven’t had a fictional crush.

9) Newest favourite character

Bryce (House of Earth and Blood) and Tori (The Guild Codex: Spellbound) – I love these two characters and I couldn’t pick just one of them, their personalities are so strong and I loved reading about them both.

10) Book that made you cry

hoeab

House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas

This is definitely an emotional read.

11) Book that made you happy

tgc1

Three Mages and a Margarita (The Guild Codex: Spellbound #1) by Annette Marie
The Guild Codex is a series I started this year and I’ve really enjoyed every book I’ve read so far. The characters and their interactions together are so fun to read about and I’m very glad I picked up the first book in this series.

12) Favourite book to film adaptation you saw this year

I’ve decided to change up this question to favourite tv show adaptation I’ve watched this year and for this question I chose two shows that were adapted from books but I don’t know if they’ll count for this question since I haven’t actually read the books they’re based on but I thought I’d talk about them anyway. I watched The Expanse and The Witcher this year and loved them both, I do plan on reading the Expanse books sometime this year.

13) Favourite review/post you’ve written this year

I did a spoiler-filled post of House of Earth and Blood where I just talked about all my feelings for the book. I usually don’t do spoiler reviews but this book was the exception.

14) Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)

tlbw pic

The Light Between Worlds by Laura Weymouth

I actually received this book for Christmas last year but I didn’t read it until this year. I love the cover and the spine as well as the inside of it.
