Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature that is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is: Holiday/Seasonal Freebie. For this topic I choose to go with wintry book titles. The book titles I’ve listed mainly feature the words Winter, Frost and Ice.

September Wrap Up 2020

What I Read In September:

Storm Cursed (Mercy Thompson #11) by Patricia Briggs – 4 STARS

I enjoyed reading Storm Cursed and I love revisiting Mercy’s story with each new book, the Mercy Thompson series is one of my favourite urban fantasies.

The Space Between Worlds by Micaiah Johnson – 3 STARS

I thought the premise of this book sounded so interesting but it wasn’t what I expected it to be. I didn’t expect the book to be so focused on Cara’s past and the relationships she had already formed. For such an interesting idea of there being multiple parallel timelines I felt that the world and characters were very limited. I did think the writing was very good and I was intrigued enough by the story to keep reading.

Rhapsodic (The Bargainer #1) by Laura Thalassa – 4 STARS
A Strange Hymn (The Bargainer #2) by Laura Thalassa – 4 STARS
The Emperor of Evening Stars (The Bargainer #2.5) by Laura Thalassa – 4 STARS
Dark Harmony (The Bargainer #3) by Laura Thalassa – 4 STARS

I decided to pick up this series after seeing a few people talk about it and say it was similar in vibes to the A Court of Thorns and Roses trilogy and I have to say I definitely agree. If you like the ACOTAR trilogy (especially ACOMAF) then I would really recommend reading this series. The writing and the love story between the two main characters is so addictive to read and I love their banter with each other.

Lost Talismans and a Tequila (The Guild Codex: Spellbound #7) by Annette Marie – 4 STARS

I enjoyed Lost Talismans and a Tequila and I really like the dynamics between the group of characters in this series, I’m sad that there is only one book left to read in this series but I’m very excited to read it.

Warping Minds & Other Misdemeanors (The Guild Codex: Warped #1) by Annette Marie – 3 STARS

This book is another spin off series to The Guild Codex series. It follows a new main character and I enjoyed reading about his adventures and reading more about the different magical guilds in this book but I do like the other Guild Codex series slightly more than this one.

Cantoras by Carolina De Robertis – 5 STARS

Cantoras is a historical fiction book that centres on five female characters throughout the 70s and 80s under an oppressive government. These five women end up going away to an island where they can be themselves without judgement and explore their sexuality with each other. They all form such close bonds with each other and I loved reading about each of these characters. I loved the writing and I loved finding out more about the characters as the years grew on, it’s such a heart breaking beautiful book.

Daughters of Nri (The Return of the Earth Mother #1) by Reni K. Amayo – 4 STARS

Daughters of Nri is a YA fantasy book that captured my interest from the very first page. It’s about twin sisters who were separated at birth to keep them safe from the ruler of the Kingdom of Nri. I found the villain to be a bit cliché in Daughters of Nri but I really liked the writing and I was very engrossed in the two main characters lives that I just wanted to keep reading, the book felt like such a quick read too.

August Wrap Up 2020

I read TEN books in September, I think it’s definitely my most read month in a long time. I usually average around six books a month so I’m glad I read a bit more in September and here’s hoping I continue at the same pace in October. In September I watched the first season of Teen Wolf which I really liked and I can’t wait to continue with and then I watched Julie and the Phantoms on Netflix which I loved. It’s such a great show and the music is so amazing and uplifting, I was so surprised by how much I loved this show.

Catching Up On Adult Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance Series

urban fantasy and paranormal romances pic0

I’ve been wanting to catch up on some series recently so I thought I’d do a post about some of the adult urban fantasies and paranormal romances that I have on my tbr list.  These are series that I’ve already started and just need to catch up on, I don’t have an overwhelming amount so I feel that I could really get to these books soon if I make them my priority.

Where Winter Finds You (Black Dagger Brotherhood #17.5) by J.R. Ward – The Shadows was one of my favourite BDB books, I loved it so much and I’m kind of worried about how I’ll feel about this book (which is a continuation of Trez’ story).

The Sinner (Black Dagger Brotherhood #18) by J.R. Ward – Syn has been an intriguing character in some of the previous BDB books so I’m very excited to read more about him.

Storm Cursed (Mercy Thompson #11) and Smoke Bitten (Mercy Thompson #12) by Patricia Briggs – The Mercy Thompson series is one of my favourite urban fantasy series’ so I can’t wait to catch up on it.

Feverborn (Fever #8) by Karen Marie Moning – I do enjoy this series but it’s been a few years since I’ve read it and I feel like my interest in it has waned a little but I still want read Feverborn.

Lost Talismans and a Tequila (The Guild Codex: Spellbound #7) by Annette Marie – I’m so excited to get back into this world and read about the characters in it, I love this series and I’m so sad that it’s nearly over (this is the second last book, I think).

Night Scourge (Daybreaker #2) by Pippa DaCosta – I was a bit disappointed in Twilight Seeker (the first book in this series) when I read it earlier this year but it did pick up in the second half of the book so I do want to read Night Scourge.

Emerald Blaze (Hidden Legacy #5) by Ilona Andrews – This is a very recent released book but I definitely want to get to it soon because it is another series that I love.

What adult urban fantasy or paranormal romances do you need to catch up on?

My Reading Rush TBR 2020

rrtbr2020 1

The Reading Rush is a readathon that I look forward to participating in every year. It’s such a fun readathon with reading challenges, instagram challenges and twitter sprints. This year it runs from 20th July to the 26th.

My TBR:

rrtbr2020 pic
Loveless by Alice Oseman

The Weight of the Stars by K. Ancrum

I Hear The Sunspot by Yuki Fumino

Storm Cursed (Mercy Thompson #11) by Patricia Briggs

The Reading Rush also has reading challenges that you can do if you want, usually I don’t actively do these but sometimes the books I read will fulfil a challenge.  The Weight of the Stars will count for this years challenge of read a book that matches your birthstone (aquamarine), read a book that starts with ‘The’ and most of the books on my tbr fulfil the challenge of read a book that takes place on a different continent than where you live.

So that’s my tbr for the Reading Rush 2020. I’ll be posting updates on my twitter (KylasLibrary) and I’ll most likely be trying to do the instagram challenges (kylaslibrary), so be sure to follow me on both.

Are you participating in the Reading Rush? If so, what books are on your tbr?
