Book Review: Venandi by K.C. Luck

venandiBook: Venandi
Author: K.C. Luck
Genre: Adult paranormal romance

A Vampire Story.

The dark and mysterious Saxon Montague is Hollywood’s most sought after movie director. Savvy and brilliant, she is a rising talent—and secretly a two-hundred-year-old vampire. When circumstances force her to fulfill her studio contract and make one more film, she is not happy with the script. In fact, a vampire thriller is the last thing she wants to direct.

At thirty-eight, Faye Stapleton knows her movie career is at a crossroads. Quickly becoming too old to be America’s rom-com sweetheart, she yearns to play a serious role. When the opportunity to star in the next Saxon Montague movie comes, she jumps at it.

When the two women meet, their chemistry is electric. Tensions mount as each woman struggles to control their mutual desires. When their passions and secrets collide, both quickly realize not everything is as it appears and that following their hearts could lead them into disaster.

My Rating: 4 STARS

My Review:

Venandi is a short (under 200 pages) paranormal romance and is about Saxon, a famous film director who is also a two hundred year old vampire. She is contracted to direct a film and ends up feeling a growing attraction to Faye, the female main lead who is a human.

The attraction between Saxon and Faye is quite instantaneous which you can expect from a short story but I would’ve liked to have seen more scenes between the two characters before going right into the romance. I did like the romance and loved them together, they definitely had chemistry. I feel that Saxons character was more fleshed out as we see her back story, I felt more of an understanding and connection to her character and personality than with Faye.

I loved the back story of Saxon and how she came to be a vampire and thought the writing was captivating to read.

Overall I did really enjoy Venandi and I liked the romance between Saxon and Faye. I felt like we didn’t get much information about Faye but I did really like the back story of Saxon and how she came to be a vampire and I liked the writing of the book.

December Wrap Up 2020

What I Read In December:

dec 2020 wrap up pic

The Jackal (Black Dagger Brotherhood: Prison Camp #1) by J.R. Ward – 3 STARS

I’ve been disappointed in the recent BDB books and I felt the same with this book. I’ve originally given it a 3 star but the more I think about it the more it feels like a 2 star read to me. I was a bit bored by the overall story and didn’t really care for the main couple or think they had much chemistry.

A Snowfall of Silver by Laura Wood – 5 STARS

I loved this book, it’s one of my favourites of the year. I loved the writing and the cosy winter feels it had. I really liked Freya and loved reading about her finding her place in the world.

Protecting Her Mate (The Nightstar Shifters #2) by Ariel Marie – 3 STARS

I thought this was an okay read but I think I liked the first book in this series slightly more than this one. I thought the couple had more chemistry in the first book, which is most likely true because Marley and Zara were best friends but in this book Robin and Heather meet for the first time and since it’s a short book the relationship doesn’t feel as developed as the first book. I also prefer the overall story of the first book too but like I said, this was still an okay read for me.

What I Read In November:

The Sinner (Black Dagger Brotherhood #18) by J.R. Ward – 3 STARS

I feel that the BDB books have become more formulaic in recent years and that can be both a good and bad thing. It’s good because I still enjoy this world and writing but it’s bad because I feel like the characters are sometimes lesser versions of previous characters for example I feel that Jo (who is the main female character in this book) reminded me so much of Therese from the previous book, they were very interchangeable characters. As for the male lead Syn, I liked his darkness in previous books but when it came to this book (his book) he wasn’t as dark and brooding as he seemed. He reminded me a bit of Murhder where their reputations are really built up then in their own book they are nothing like what we’ve previously thought they were.

Delivering Evil for Experts (The Guild Codex: Demonized #4) by Annette Marie – 5 STARS

I loved this book, it’s the final one in The Guild Codex: Demonized series and I loved it. I loved how much this book centred on the relationship between Zylas and Robin. I’ve loved their interactions throughout this whole series but I definitely feel like this book took their relationship to a whole new level. Obviously the romance had ramped up but it wasn’t just that, I feel like the emotional connection between each other really deepened in this book and the ending was so good, I loved it.

Jade City (The Green Bone Saga #1) by Fonda Lee – 4 STARS

Jade City is such a well written story and I loved how it was so easy to imagine it in my head, this book feels like a movie or tv show because the scenes definitely suit it. It’s such a complex story that centres around clan warfare and the familial bond of one of those clans. It was very intriguing and I really wanted to know what was going to happen next. There were also some twists I didn’t expect and I’m excited for the next one in the series.

Reaper’s Pack by Rhea Watson – 3 STARS

I enjoyed this book and I liked how the characters were fleshed out and I felt like they all had their own personalities. I also liked the back story of the main character and I liked the premise of her being a grim reaper. Although I enjoyed it, I didn’t find it particularly memorable which is why I gave it 3 stars.

From Blood and Ash (Blood and Ash #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout – 4 STARS

I’ve been hearing non stop buzz about this book recently so I decided to just pick it up because it sounded like something I’d love. And I did really like this book, I enjoyed the characters and the overall story arc but I did think it dragged on a bit. I mean, I was liking what I was reading but this book is one of those books where you feel like you’ve read a lot of it and then you realise you only read a small percentage, I also found the big twists predictable but it was still an enjoyable read.

The Library of the Unwritten (Hell’s Library #1) by A.J. Hackwith – 3 STARS

I loved the premise of this book. It’s about a librarian who’s tasked with keeping unwritten books and unwritten characters in order in a library in hell. The concept of this book is so interesting, I loved how it centred around books and I loved the writing of it, it’s so quotable. Even though I loved the premise and the writing, I did feel the characters were a bit lacking. I don’t know why, I just didn’t connect of feel for any of them which left me a bit unattached to them and the story but overall I do think it’s an interesting adventure story.

I Hear the Sunspot: Limit 1 by Yuki Fumino – 2 STARS

I enjoyed the other volumes in this series but I was a bit disappointed in this one. I feel like not much is really happening in the story and even though I enjoyed the other books I feel like I might not end up continuing with the series.

Emerald Blaze (Hidden Legacy #5) by Ilona Andrews – 4 STARS

I really liked Emerald Blaze and the series overall. I love Ilona Andrews’ writing and how they write a story. Every book I’ve read by them has such a perfect balance between a great plot, fleshed out characters and a captivating romance and this book was no different. I loved reading about Catalina and Alessandro and their interactions between each other, especially after the ending of the last book.

Sailing With Her Wolf (The Nightstar Shifters #1) by Ariel Marie – 3 STARS

Sailing With Her Wolf is a short FF paranormal romance that I only recently heard about and decided to pick up. I liked the characters and their romance and I liked how Marley was a shifter, I wanted to read more about her and her pack. There wasn’t much to the story besides the romance but I still enjoyed it and I’m excited to read more books by this author.
